You don't need an iPod FM transmitter and accessory pack in order to listen to oldies music. Instead, you can download and listen to all your favorite songs and play them in any order you want. The suspense of waiting to see how a new artist is going to sound is now gone, instead the age of instant downloads has arrived.

Frank Greer, an employee at York's Edison Company, loved to play with electronic gadgets. His granddaughter, the writer of this article, wonders what he would have done with an mp3. Perhaps he would have taken the device apart, in order to see how it worked. Perhaps he would have shown disgust or surprise at the music that had been downloaded onto that mp3.
One will never know for sure what comments Frank Greer might have made about the ability of an mp3 to store 240 different songs. He undoubtedly would have found the device to represent advancement over Edison's 1877 phonograph. He might also have had an interesting view of 21st Century technology.
One man who remembers buying his first 45 has penned some interesting remarks. He has sent them to the Opinion editor for a rock 'n roll publication, Vainquer Magazine.
His remarks suggest that not all music lovers have only praise for the mp3.
Just look at what he wrote: "Getting to sample albums - boring! Imagine buying a record and having no idea whether it is good or not. Imagine the anticipation of listening to that album for the first time. Is it good or does it suck. (sic) Imagine the exhilaration of finding that last copy of the record/song you were looking for. All that is gone with the computer age of music and music buying. Everything is there just waiting for you. The hunt is over. You can shoot the tiger from your computer and never miss."
Youth and adults might together ponder on the above words. What do they suggest about the mp3? Does that device steal a bit of mystery and excitement from the lives of present-day youth? Does the mp3 highlight the extent to which so much now comes so easily into the laps of our youth?
Maybe the ease of downloading songs will reinforce the ability of youth to download and copy material for a school report. Maybe all of our modern devices diminish the research skills our young people. Someone should address that subject, and then they should put their comments in a pod cast.
